Douglas St. Fire:
At approximately 10:55 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026, volunteers from the St. Leonard Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company, along with mutual aid crews from the Prince Frederick, Solomons, Huntingtown, and Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department, were dispatched for a reported residential structure fire on Douglas Street in St. Leonard.

Upon arrival of Engine 71, fire was reported through the roof. Crews began an aggressive interior and exterior attack to prevent further damage. Chief Weems arrived shortly after and established Command alongside Assistant Chief DeVries.

Firefighters worked quickly to contain the blaze, bringing the fire under control within approximately twenty minutes while preventing further extension.

All occupants and pets safely fled the residence. No injuries were reported at the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.
