Crews Respond to Multiple Fires

Douglas St. Fire:
At approximately 10:55 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026, volunteers from the St. Leonard Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company, along with mutual aid crews from the Prince Frederick, Solomons, Huntingtown, and Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department, were dispatched for a reported residential structure fire on Douglas Street in St. Leonard.

Upon arrival of Engine 71, fire was reported through the roof. Crews began an aggressive interior and exterior attack to prevent further damage. Chief Weems arrived shortly after and established Command alongside Assistant Chief DeVries.

Firefighters worked quickly to contain the blaze, bringing the fire under control within approximately twenty minutes while preventing further extension.

All occupants and pets safely fled the residence. No injuries were reported at the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Dasher Lane Fire:
Approximately thirty minutes after clearing the Douglas Street call, units were called to another house fire (2:08AM) on Dasher Ln in Cove Point. Eng. 71, Tanker 7, Squad 7 and Chief 7 and Chief 7A responded. Chief 7 arrived on scene and quickly downgraded the call to a minor room and content type fire that was extinguished. Units from St. Leonard VFD was placed in service and returned.
