On Tuesday, January 6, 2026, St. Leonard Volunteer Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire at the intersection of Solomons Island Road and Nursery Road, just south of White Sands Drive in Lusby. At the time of the incident, Ambulance 77 was attending a medical call, Engine 71 was assisting Company 20 PA204 with another medical emergency in their first due area, and Engine 72 was participating in a pumps class in LaPlata. Tanker 7 responded to the fire with two firefighters, and Engine 71 joined the response after clearing from the medical assist with six firefighters. Tanker 7 arrived to find a vehicle fully involved in fire in the intersection. The crew began firefighting operations using the 1 1/2 inch bumper hose line. Engine 71 soon arrived and assisted with extinguishing the fire.
