| On June 9 at 8:36 a.m., firefighters from St. Leonard Volunteer Fire & Rescue were dispatched to a structure fire in the 3000 block of Mayberry Avenue in the Marley Run Subdivision. Engine 71, led by Lieutenant Benton; Tanker 7, led by Captain Terry; and Rehab 7, led by Lieutenant Curtis, responded to the incident. Before crews arrived, command determined that the fire would be fought defensively because of a roof collapse. Engine 71 established a water supply by connecting to a nearby hydrant, and its crew was assigned to the rear of the residence to help control the fire from outside. After most of the fire was knocked down using multiple elevated water streams, Engine 71’s crew entered through the basement to support overhaul and address remaining hotspots. Tanker 7 assisted by bringing water from an off-site location to the scene. Rehab 7 provided water and supported EMS in monitoring the health of crews working at the incident. Units remained on scene for about three hours. During this time, additional staff operated Engine 72 at the station to ensure continued fire and EMS service to the community. |
