On August 24th, 2015 at approximately 2315 hours, units from the St. Leonard VFD were alerted to the serious auto accident on Calvert Beach Road in the area of Forest Trail. The Deputy Fire Chief (Richman), Safety Officer (Bauer), Rescue Captain (Buckmaster), Fire Sergeant (Davis), Squad 7 (L. Culbert), Engine 71 (Capt. Midkiff III), Ambulance 78 (T. Dillon), Ambulance 79 (R. Weems), Command 7 (Sgt. Gilbert), and Car 7 (Lt. York) responded on the call. Chief 2A arrived on the scene first to find a single vehicle into a tree with one patient severely trapped in the vehicle and three other patients who had self-extricated and established the "Calvert Beach Road Command". Company 7 units then arrived on the scene and immediately stabilized the vehicle and began extrication to free the trapped patient with the assistance of Squad 2. A helicopter was requested and members began ALS and BLS treatment of the patients. Due to the severity of the entrapment the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center's Go Team was requested by command due to the patient's life-threatening injuries and the possibility of an extrication time estimated to exceed one hour. At approximately 0005 hours the patient was freed and the Go Team was cancelled. Trooper 7 then transported the patient that was trapped to Prince Georges County Trauma Center. One patient was transported by ground to Prince George's County Trauma Center by Ambulance 79. And the other two patients were transported by Ambulance 37 to CMH. Command was then terminated and remaining Co.7 units stayed on the scene to assist the CCSO with reconstruction. Our deepest condolences, thoughts & prayers are with the family & friends of the patient's.
