On March 19th, 2019 at approximately 1308 hours, the St. Leonard Volunteers and surrounding companies were alerted to White Sands Drive and Route. 4 for the serious auto accident. Promptly, Engine 71 and Ambulance 78 responded. While en-route, the Calvert Emergency Communications Center updated responding units that it involved two commercial vehicles and one is possibly on fire. Company 7 units then arrived on scene shortly after to find a two vehicle rear-end collision involving a landscaping truck and fuel oil truck and two other vehicles and Engine 71 established the "White Sands" command. Upon further investigation, units found no fire or entrapment and four patients were in need of medical attention. While Engine 71 secured the vehicles, Ambulance 78 consulted with a local trauma center who accepted one of the patients by aviation to there facility. Aviation and an additional BLS transport unit were then requested by command. Ultimately one patient was transported by MSP Trooper 7 to a local trauma facility and three other were transported by ground to a local hospital. Engine 71 and Squad 3 then remained on scene to assist the tow truck operators with removing the vehicles involved and ensuring there was no additional fuel leakage. Company 7 units operated for approximately two hours.
