By Safety Officer Norman Bauer
June 26, 2016

At 19:17 on Saturday, June 26, 2016, Company 7 units were dispatched to the working house fire on Aralia Ave in Saint Leonard. Engine 72 (Graham), Squad 7 (Chief 7), Engine 71 (C. Hosselrode), Captain 7 (Midkiff), and Ambulance 79 responded. At 19:23, Captain 7 arrived on scene of the 2-story split-foyer house confirming the working fire with heavy fire throughout the second floor and through the roof. Capt. 7 assumed command.

Engine 72 arrived shortly after Capt 7 and laid in, with (3) 1-3/4" attack lines pulled off and placed in service. Engine 21 picked up 72's line and supplied its water to the Engine 72. Crews initially entered through the front door of the residence with a hoseline to attempt a knock on the bulk of the fire from the steps, but were backed out as the evacuation tones were sounded per Incident Command. Crews used the three attack lines to knock the remaining fire from the exterior before being cleared to entered to get the hot spots.

Two firefighters were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The scene was turned over to the Maryland State Police Fire Marshal and Company 7 units cleared at approximately 22:00.

Mutual Aid: Engine 21, Tower 2, Squad 2, Tanker 2, Engine 31, Tanker 3, Engine 61, and Tanker 6.
