The St. Leonard Volunteer Fire Department is pleased to announce we have received a Volunteer Fire Assistance (VFA) Grant from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Forest Service in the amount of $927.00. This past week they announced the 2018 Volunteer Fire Assistance (VFA) grants to 49 volunteer fire departments across the state. The projects are to be funded in 17 Maryland counties to assist volunteer fire companies to enhance wildland fire protection in rural communities. This year 60 Volunteer Fire Departments from 19 counties applied for funding assistance with $310,388 in projects. The Maryland Forest Service awarded grant funds to 49 fire departments for $104,099 in match funding to complete $245,907 in total project cost. The maximum grant awarded was $3,000 per department. The Federal Grant funds are provided by the USDA Forest Service. The St. Leonard VFD would like to take this time to thank the Maryland Department of Natural Resources as this grant will assist us in outfitting our new Jeep 7 which is expected to be in-service by the end of this year.
