By Deputy Chief - Fire Raleigh Midkiff III
April 19, 2018

On April 19th the engine company was alerted for a building fire in Benedict. Engine 72 (FF L. Culbert) and Dep Chief Midkiff responded immediately. Units from Charles County arrived on the scene to find a restaurant with heavy fire throughout. Hughesville's Assistant Chief established the Benedict command and advised all units that this was going to be a defensive fire. Eng 72 arrived as the third due engine company and laid a supply line from a draft site at the Patuxent River. Command gave Chief 7B water supply and he assisted command. Eng 72 crew ran the 400 foot attack line to side delta and began extinguishment efforts. PG engine 836 drafted from the river to Engine 72. Once water supply was established Engine 72 supplied La Plata VFD Ladder Truck 1 with ladder pipe operations. The majority of the fire was knocked down and command had the master streams shut down. He than sent Engine 72's crew in to extinguish the last of the fire. Units operated for over 3 hours.
