Long Beach Road Kitchen Fire

By Assistant Chief Thomas Buckmaster
February 24, 2018

On February 24th, 2018 at approximately 1501 hours, the St. Leonard Volunteers were alerted to a structure fire in the 5200 block of Long Beach Road. Chief 7A, Safety 7A, Engine 71, Squad 7, Tanker 7, and Ambulance 77 immediately responded. Chief 7A arrived on scene to find a two story single family split foyer with smoke showing from the eaves and established the "Long Beach Command". Engine 71 then arrived on scene, stretched a line inside to the 2nd floor to find a working kitchen fire, and made an interior attack while Squad 7 performed searches. Engine 21 and Tower 2 then arrived and assisted SLVFD units with extinguishment and overhaul while Truck 3 performed secondary searches and secured power to the dwelling. Command then held SLVFD and PFVFD units to assist the Maryland State Fire Marshal. Ultimately the cause of the fire was accidental and was caused by leaving an electric stove on with multiple different contents on top of it. Company 7 units operated for approximately two hours. Thank you to SVRSFD Engine 31 for filling in at our station during the duration of the incident.
