Incident Write-up

Kitchen Fire
04/17/2012

Just after midnight, Chief 7A (Lankford), Engine 72 (Sgt James), Squad 7 (Lt Buckmaster), Tanker 7 (Brady) and Ambulance 78 (7B Anderson) responded to the 5000 block of Chesapeake Ave in St. Leonard for a reported kitchen fire.  Squad 7 arrived first to find a two story single family with light smoke showing from the rear.  Squad 7 along with Engine 72 entered the structure and found a stove fire that had extended into the surrounding cabinets and the ceiling above the stove.  Engine 72 knocked down all visible fire within seconds while Squad 7 overhauled the ceiling and walls, finding minimal extension. The assignment was held to company 7 units less than 15 minutes after the initial dispatch.  Due to working smoke detectors all occupants and animals were alerted quickly and able to make it out of the structure without injury.
